My Inspiring Story
I am called Little Guy or Runter-Roo. I was born on Dec. 5th with a cleft palate. That means i cannot ever nurse. It is like trying to drink from a straw with an open mouth. My owner did not know this from the start, so i went the first couple days of my life with no food, while my 9 brothers and sisters were getting plenty. I was very hungry. my owner niticed my cleft palate when I yawned very big one day, so she started hand feeding me every 3-4 hours! At first, my owner did not know she could try to save me, so she brougt me into the vet to get put to sleep. I was scared when she took me from my mother. Fortunately, the vet had raised a cleft palate pup 12 years ago and he's still alive today! Most vets would day to kill me, but this one was speacial and wanted me to live, so i was able to go home to my mama!
Later that day, my owner got a phone call saying that the surgery I would need would come to about $4000! Yikes! No one can pay that, so arangements were made yet again to bring me in the next day to face the inevitable....euthanasia. Well, the next morning rolled around and I had a swollen and infected eye(my immuniy is was down from not getting the antibodies from my mother's milk). My owner thought that it just gave even more justice to put me down. Surprisingy, even though the vet knew what i was there for, she started treating my eye to see how she could help! She opened my eye and finally the pressure was relieved, but it took my vision with it, in my right eye. The vet said that she would recuce the price to about $1500. My owner was still unsure, so she called her father for advice, kinowing that he is Mr. rational about these things. He said to her, "ya know what...my first intiation is to give this guy a chance at life." It was my 3rd chance at life already. I got to go home to my mama again.
Two lays later, I woke up with my other eye being swollen. I went to the vet, but thankfully she said that my eye might be ok! This was on my 9th day of life. I am doing good now. I am always warm and always have a full belly! Although my brothers and sisters are much larger than me, I think I'll turn out to be a fine pup, and then an excellent dog! I can't wait till I'm old enough to run and have my ears flop in the wind!
My eyes finally opened up; it turns out that i am completely blind. But there is still hope for me! I want to live...
